In the Spring of 2017, Biarritz was officially named ‘The City of Surf’ and is known to many as the Surfing Capital of Europe.

The naming took place during Biarritz’s historic ISA World Surfing Games which took place between the 20th and 28th of May 2017, with France championing off with Gold in the Team Rankings, and The Women’s Gold Medalists won by Pauline Ado. Mexico’s Jhony Corzo made a win with the Open Men Medalists Gold – Landmarking his first ISA World Surfing Game victory.

Surfing is native to the Southwest of France, The Landes and Basque Country Regions in particular, attracting surfers from all over Europe and other parts of the world. Surfing inspiration can be found on every street corner, whether it be street art, in a coffee shop, restaurant, museum, or clothing store.

Surfing has made it’s influence on the Coastal Line Regions culture as well – a laid back, easy going and nature embraced lifestyle is what many people experience both living and visiting Biarritz, among other cities on the Basque Country Coast.

At the Inspire Academy, we encourage our students to escape their offices and every day life cycle to spend time learning new languages while doing adventurous activities – such as surfing. We believe it’s important to our wellbeing to spend time embracing nature.  And why not do that, in the surfing capital of Europe?

Whether you’re a beginner or expert surfer, come join us in Biarritz as we ride the waves and converse in English.
